Institut Mines-Telecom is a public scientific institution, with cultural and professional vocation, under the joint supervision of the French Minister of Industry and French Minister responsible for electronic communications.
The schools of Institut Mines-Télécom are listed amongst the leading Grandes Ecoles in France.
Geared towards economic stakeholders, the activities of the institution involve research, innovation and education for engineers, managers, specialists and professors, and are acknowledged for their excellence at both national and international level.
Institut Mines-Télécom and its schools have a strategic mission to support economic development through innovation for businesses and in particular SMEs and midcaps.
Institut Mines-Télécom’s ambitions for the future are perhaps best expressed in its four major strategic priorities:

The institute’s research activities are organized into five main disciplinary themes: digital technologies, energy, materials, natural resources and the environment and economics, enterprise and society. In addition to these areas, there are two horizontal sectors of application: health and transport.
The exponential development of information and communication technologies is driving the emergence of a digital society characterized by soaring volumes of exchanges of data, content and knowledge in all sectors of activity. The digital domain encompasses the scientific and technical themes that lie at the heart of these profound changes combining technologies not only of communication, but also of intelligence.
The phenomenon of " Big Data " is the new revolution.
Institut Mines-Télécom, through its unique positioning addressing the three dimensions of research, education, and innovation plays a fundamental role in supporting the transformation of France .
Through research in the fields of hard sciences, but also in economics, business and society the Institute is building a prospective vision that technological developments, facilitate the removal of locks, and meet the needs for skills.
In Education, the schools of the group prepare future corporate resources, but also the transformation of current profiles.
Through the innovation axis, start-ups and SMEs in the ecosystem benefit from agile development of new business. Accompanying technology transfer and new business models position them in the vanguard of the market, differentiate them from the competition, allowing them to exploit these assets abroad.
Institut Mines-Télécom is at the origin of several initiatives for the promotion of Big Data in France that demonstrate its commitment and leadership role in the ecosystem .
In Research, several industrial chairs are funded by industrial corporations in relation with Big Data:
- Machine Learning for Big Data " led by Professor Stephan Clémençon , are the System, in collaboration with the CNIL
- Research Chair on Social Networks " Led by Christine Balagué with the partners : BNP Paribas , Criteo , PSA, Safran ,
- Values and Policies personal information " coordinated by Claire Levallois-Barth in partnership with the National Printing Group , BNP Paribas and Dassault support Poste Yellow Pages Group and Danone.
